Reliability Comes First

Technology changes constantly, but the principles behind reliable IT operations rarely do. Successful environments are not built around the newest tools. They are built around consistency, documentation and thoughtful decisions.

When people think about IT, they often focus on new technologies. My priority is different. I first ask whether a system is reliable, maintainable and easy to support.

Documentation Supports Reliability

Good documentation is not only written for colleagues. It is also written for yourself months later, when the details of a configuration or decision are no longer fresh in your mind.

I prefer documentation that explains both what was configured and why the decision was made. The reasoning behind a setup is often more valuable than the setting itself, especially when the environment needs to be maintained or changed later.

Automation With a Purpose

Whenever I automate a process, the objective is not automation itself. The goal is to reduce repetitive work, minimise human error and create more time for tasks that require judgement and communication.

That philosophy is also why I actively use AI in my daily workflow. Automation should support people, not replace them.

Simple Solutions Scale Better

Complex systems are not necessarily better systems. In many situations, removing unnecessary components improves reliability more than adding new ones.

Whether I am working on websites, infrastructure or internal processes, I try to keep the overall design as straightforward as possible. Simplicity usually makes future maintenance easier.
